![]() This is the title of this novel because it is relating to the trial of Tom Robinson. It would be a sin to take one's life for no reason at all. When Scout doesn't understand what her father is saying, she asks Miss Maudie and she explains that a mockingbird does nothing more then make beautiful music for everyone to enjoy. Atticus then tells him that if he does shoot birds with his gun that he can shoot as many blue jays as he wants but to remember not to kill mockingbirds. The reason Atticus says, ".it is a sin to kill a mockingbird" is that Jem complains about not having a gun at his age to practise shooting on birds. I also think that they chose for the statement to come from Atticus because he is the protagonist in the story and because he is how people SHOULD act, such as following through with what YOU believe in even though everyone is against you on it and to have self respect for yourself by knowing you did the right thing, instead of acting like how the other people in Maycomb by gossiping, following everyone else by chosing to believe what they say is true even though it may not and thinking that you are better than everyone else just cause of your skin colour.Ģ. ![]() "Coloured" people are referred to as the "mockingbird" in this metaphor becuase they don't effect you negatively, they are just regular people like everybody else, so why would you kill someone that has not done anything except for live? I also think this is why the title is "To Kill A Mockingbird" because I think that this book is trying to portray the fact that you should not be treated poorly and unfair just because of the certain skin colour that you have. I also think that this is a metaphor, it is comparing how in the story they are killing "coloured" people just because they differ in skin colour. All they do is make beautiful music for you while your outside. Atticus tells Scout and Jem is that it is a sin to kill a mockingbird because they don't affect you negatively in any way. In a few swift movements, he brought the rifle to his shoulder and fired the rifle and Tim Johnson flopped over, dead.2. Tim Johnson was about to continue on his original course, but his body went still and alert. Atticus dropped his glasses to the ground, and they broke. For God's sake look where he is! Miss and you'll go straight into the Radley House! I can't shoot that well and you know it! Don't just stand there, Heck! He won't wait all day for you- Atticus reluctantly agreed to fire, for it had been 30 years since he fired a gun. Heck wanted Atticus to fire because he was afraid of hitting the Radley House because of his bad aim. We had better wait, sometimes they go straight, but he might follow the curve-hope he does or else he'll be in the Radley yard. While Calpurnia tried in vain to alert the Radley's, Heck Tate and Atticus roled in on a black Ford. ![]() Finch's office! Sir, I swear to God there's a mad dog coming down the street, come quick! After they showed Calpurnia Tim Johnson from a distance to her, she hurriedly called Atticus to come home because there was a rabid dog. ![]() ![]() Jem and Scout decided to go out hunting with their air rifles, but before they got 500 yards past the Radley's, Jem saw Old Tim Johnson and decided that they should go home and tell Calpurnia. ![]()
